Author. Mentor. Church-planter.
My current season in life is described by Robert Clinton as “Convergence.”
After planting six churches across North and South Carolina, this is a time in life when it’s more about helping others than doing it myself. And that makes me happy. My passion is making disciples, mentoring leaders, and helping new churches get started on a healthy track. Seeing leaders develop a thriving inner life, a strong family life, and an effective ministry team–that’s what gets me up in the morning. Oh…and I’m starting to get some of my core life messages written down in books so the next generation can benefit from things I’ve learned the hard way.
I live with the love my life Nan in the mountains of North Carolina and enjoy hiking, reading, and physical fitness. We have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
God knew how important discipline would be for my service in the kingdom. I can only thank Him for the training He provided leading me to become an eagle scout, an Air Force Academy graduate, and an Air Force pilot. The more I look back, the more I recognize the hand of God shaping me for a life time of church planting.
After finishing tours in Vietnam I attended Fuller and Golden Gate Baptist seminaries receiving an Mdiv. While I greatly appreciate the academic preparation I was given in the classrooms, I must admit they did not prepare me for making disciples or planting churches.
I recently completed three years of classes for a Dmin in leadership at Columbia International University but decided against the dissertation.
The churches I have personally planted: Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC; Grace Covenant Church of Rocky Mount, NC; Grace Church of Chapel Hill, NC; and GraceLife Church of Columbia, SC. I have also coached two church plants: Embark Church in Orangeburg, SC, and Hilltop Church in Boone, NC.
