Watching for Divine Appointments

I confess that I am addicted to those magical moments when God sovereignly orchestrates it so that I “accidentally” bump into someone He wants me to meet, to get to know, to help, or to lead to Christ. He has a reason, and somehow He entrusts you and me to partner with Him. Divine appointments.

Jesus Himself lived this way every day, all the time. He said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner” (John 5:19).

Doing Life With

DOING LIFE WITH is a “field guide” for becoming a disciple who disciples. Punctuated with personal stories from the author’s own discipleship journey, this book casts a vision for—and offers the tools for—transforming the world with the decidedly low-tech approach of personal, ongoing relationship. The example that Jesus gave us. Here you’ll find the fundamentals of faith and practice to confidently lay a spiritual foundation in another person’s soul that will last for a lifetime. Solidly anchored in the scriptures, Doing Life With is a message, a mentorship, and a map. The Path to a Healthy Marriage

Question: What is the best thing you can bring to your marriage?

Answer: A healthy you!

Marriage “issues” (otherwise known as problems) basically arise from our lack of emotional and spiritual health. And FYI, no one just gets healthy and stays there. Becoming healthy is an ongoing process called life. The thing about marriage is that it is designed to reveal and resolve the unhealthy parts of our soul. Why is this?

LEADERSHIP

Jesus’ Starting Point for Leadership

Who is asking the obvious question: “What’s your model for a leader? How do you evaluate one’s leadership?” For the most part I would say that pragmatism is the order of the day, and of course it’s important to measure results. Fortunately, as it turns out, character figures prominently in producing measurable success.

This is no surprise to us who follow Jesus that servant-leadership and even humility are widely recognized as valuable leadership qualities even in industry. Why? Character works, pure and simple, and it has been demonstrated in our pragmatic world. So if Jesus is our model Leader, where should we start?

Following Jesus Out of the Brokenness

We yearn for meaning in a world marked by pain. How does the gospel lead us out of such brokenness? Paul writes the book of Romans to describe how the gospel transforms, not just our eternal destiny, but our earthly future together. Personal suffering, relational rifts, behavioral addictions, church divisions, and even community fragmentation—all these are healed and restored by the gospel. This is Paul’s promise to us. Dare we believe it? Disappointment and disillusionment with the church will give way to fresh hope as we learn to not just believe the gospel, but live the gospel! Let’s follow Jesus into His restoration project.

LEADERSHIP

Widening the Spectrum

Leadership is a huge topic in today’s world, as it should be. I like to say, “Nothing happens without leadership,” and the intercessors often bump me with, “No, intercession comes first.” I then back up and say, “Yes, but the first answered prayer is for a leader.” It’s that important. Think Joseph, Moses, Paul. Of course there is Jesus Himself.

When we speak of leadership, we are typically thinking in terms of the out-front charismatic leader. Makes sense, but what if we turn this concept on its head for another look? What if we could widen the spectrum of what leadership entails, what leadership could be?
